SUPACELL - UNMISTAKABLY LONDON

Posted on 30th July 2024 by FilmFixer

With a perfect review score of 100% on Rotten Tomatoes and having knocked Bridgerton off of the top spot on the English-language TV list, it’s safe to say that Supacell has taken viewers and critics by storm.

It’s been widely documented that Rapman – the writer and director – was inspired to create an authentic London-based story. He wanted people from South London in particular to see themselves and their area represented on screen in a way that they hadn’t been able to before.

We were very proud to facilitate plenty of shoots across London, with areas of Southwark and Thamesmead Estate both providing key locations. In a recent interview with Film London, the Supervising Location Manager Spencer Normington said “I believe filming on location, when possible, brings a real sense of realism and authenticity.

Our Senior Film Officer Alex Healy added “I think what sets this series apart from other shows is the research and specificity of the different locations the production chose to represent South London. It really captures the vibe and brings everything to life so vividly – in a way I do not think is possible with a set build or green screen.

We want to extend our huge thanks to residents and businesses across the boroughs where Supacell filmed for their cooperation. We also want to congratulate Rapman, Spencer, and the entire crew for demonstrating so many ways in which filming can enrich a local community. Here’s a rundown of just some of the locations we facilitated for the show…

  • Thamesmead Estate, where Rapman also hosted a Q&A for local residents and where we were able to provide work experience for aspiring filmmakers via Set Ready
  • A huge range of locations across Southwark including Burgess Park, Peckham Library, and Harlescott Road
  • Finsbury Park’s McKenzie Gardens in Haringey
  • Cranbrook Road in Redbridge
  • Alexandra & Ainsworth Estate in Camden
  • Radley House in Bexley
